Government announces lottery ticket sales via Pao Tang mobile app
The Government Lottery Office (GLO) will start offering tickets through the Pao Tang mobile app at 80 baht each in a bid to keep lottery ticket prices low, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Anucha Nakasai announced on Sunday.
The remarks came in the wake of the government’s crackdown on online lottery vendors “Blue Dragon Lottery” and “Kong Salak Plus”, which were suspected of selling tickets at inflated prices.
Mr Anucha, who heads a government committee investigating the overvaluation of lottery tickets, said people wishing to buy tickets for the June 16 draw will soon be able to buy tickets through the app. He did not say when tickets for this draw will be offered.
He said that by using the app, consumers will not only be able to buy tickets at the official retail price of 80 baht each, but they will also be able to opt for cashless payment to make the purchase.
The app, which was developed by Krung Thai Bank, is also securely encrypted, requiring users to enter a personal code before a transaction can be completed. According to the developers, the app has more than 40 million users.
Additionally, he said, not only will the platform record each individual’s purchase history, but it will notify a ticket holder if their numbers are drawn.
To help bring down the average price of lottery tickets, the government will also consider setting up official booths in every district in every province.
Authorities will also review more than 9,000 contracts with lottery agents across the country and crack down on those selling tickets at irregular prices, he said.
The committee, Mr. Anucha said, will propose a number of recommendations directly to the cabinet.
